Today Ryan and I decided to venture out to Coney Island. It's his last week of free time before law school starts next week and we both had the whole day open. We checked the forecast and saw that it was supposed to rain mostly all afternoon and evening, but we decided to chance it anyway. We brought an umbrella and put our iphones into plastic sandwich bags to keep them safe in Ryan's messenger bag. We wore our swimsuits under our clothes so we could sit on the beach after strolling the boardwalk.
It was about an hour's trip by train, and by the time we got to the area it was pouring cats and dogs outside like crazy. the wind blew our little umbrella around and we got pretty soaked by the giant pelting drops even though we brought one. we were starting to think this might not be such a good idea, so we made our way over to the aquarium so see if it would be a good indoors way to pass the time, but it turned out the beluga whales were loaned out to Georgia, and they were the main reason I wanted to go.
We decided on chancing the boardwalk in the crazy, but fun, summer storm weather.
Not five minutes after walking down the boardwalk in pouring rain, it all stopped abruptly, leaving behind a lovely, quiet, clean, deserted scene. every booth and restaurant was closed, and there were hardly any other people around at all. The wood planks were filled with pools of water which reflected the sky and carnival colours. it was so lovely!
Then it was beach time! but way too cold to take off our clothes so we stayed sheathed. and out of the water.
Then we went to Nathan's for supper. Ryan got a chili cheese dog and I got a lobster roll. For dessert we went across the street to Louie G's for ice cream. got spumoni and ryan got coconut, passionfruit, and mango italian ice.

In other news, I know I take waaaay too many pictures, and it's becoming harder and harder for me to just weed out strictly outfit ones for this blog, as I have plenty of other photos of life details I want to share, so I created a new tumblr and added a tab link up at the top of my blog. so if you'd like to see more photography documenting our everyday lives, that's where the photo overload should be from now on.
Super cute dress! I love Coney Island! One of my favorite places in NYC!
ReplyDeleteToo bad it rained on you, but looks/sounds like you still had fun, which is what counts! The picture of you two holding hands is adorable. I don't think you take too many pictures at all! And your dress is so cute!

Your dress is so lovely! I want it for myself :)
ReplyDeleteYour trip to Coney Island looked like fun, even though places were closed. I think you lucked out with it raining and then stopping - it deterred people from going (which I think is a good thing because I'm uncomfortable with large crowds).
ReplyDeleteMy husband is always trying to get to Coney Island by bike. He's gotten lost several times, and even almost got mugged somewhere in a bad part of Brooklyn. Luckily he's fast, or so he claims.
Complex Cardigans
