Grandma B

Today was my Grandma Bagley's funeral. I feel very lucky to have been able to travel back home and spend time with family and plan and attend this event and tribute. She was a pretty great lady. I thought I'd post some photos from her life today, since I haven't been blogging these past few weeks, and spending time with her and talking about her with the rest of the family has been at the forefront of my activities. It's been really fun to hear all these stories from different sources about different eras of her life, and going through family photos has been a great treasure hunt.

She was a musical genius and passed on her passion and talent to a lot of her posterity- for the funeral, my sister, two cousins, and I sang a four part acapella medley that she had arranged back in the day, and at the end all the cousins playing various stringed instruments performed Pachebel's Canon as they carried out the casket- and it was pretty striking to see that we made up enough people for a chamber orchestra. It was a really beautiful and moving service. I'll always be grateful for the love she instilled in me for playing violin and singing.

  1. I'm so glad you were able to go and be family and that you were close with your grandma. So many people don't really get to know their grandparents. I never met my grandfathers and really only have one grandmother close enough and sane enough to visit. She's also "Grandma B" :) Your grandma B was just gorgeous and so stylish. Thank you for reminding me to give my gran a call :)

  6. Sorry for your loss Kathryn; I'm sure she knew that she had all that love and admiration from her family. The music tribute is so touching, thanks for sharing it with us. Love her style, specially beautiful in that picture with the Scarlett o'Hara hair and the white dress with ruffles
