Applecrest Farm

Over the weekend while we were in Boston, we went apple picking at a farm outside of the city and spent the afternoon wandering the orchards, enjoying the fall festival, eating apple cider donuts and fresh pumpkin ice cream, and coming face to face with two fluffy Alpacas. The weather took a turn for the worse, which cancelled our later hiking plans- it was getting colder and colder and windier and drizzlier as the day progressed- so we took a scenic route home and enjoyed some foliage from the car. Luckily we were able to pick a bushel of apples and have fun getting lost amid all the trees before the weather started acting up too much. There were so. many. apples.

I found this beautiful bright red vine growing up a tree and couldn't resist picking it- it wasn't technically part of the tree and was probably choking it somehow any, right? Several employees expressed their concern that I was wearing poison ivy, but I counted my leaves first....I grew up in poison-ivy- heavy areas like Maryland and Ohio where the 'leaves of three, let them be' mantra was pounded pretty clearly into our little heads so I wasn't about to just go picking anything . But man, can you imagine if it had turned out to be some sort of poison plant? Glad it was just pretty and innocuous.

We got to take a short wagon ride to and from the orchards, which was fun. We passed cornfields and pumpkin patches and the small petting zoo on the way. Afterwards, hot cider and delicious freshly made donuts awaited us- and for lunch we had their house butternut squash cranberry soup. It was the perfect day for cozy warm food. I couldn't resist getting ice cream though- even though it was pretty cold. As soon as I found out there was pumpkin and it was locally made and fresh I was sold. I also bought mini pumpkins. because. cute.

  1. Beautiful photos as always! I've always wanted to go apple picking, but I am not sure they have that in Colorado :-( I love your cute outfit as well. The skirt is so pretty on you!

  3. Yum! Apples and pumpkin ice cream sound wonderful. I really would love to go apple picking. I also love this blue and red outfit! You really can't go wrong with that color combination. I have a thrifted skirt that's almost identical to yours except it's black. I wish mine was in red instead because yours looks so cute on you!

  5. Gorgeous images! Love the one with both of you together, the apple frozen on the air (was it falling?) and the one where Ryan looks so happy with the donut! :)
