in a funk
So this dress is weird. It's a totally different shape than anything else I own, and the material is a weird, thick, slipper velour kind of thing. It was only $9 at joe fresh a few months ago, and I was drawn to the long sleeves, lush texture, and overall drapeyness. I'm not sure how I feel about it after wearing it and taking photos and all- the shape isn't the most flattering thing in the world, but then again, I kind of like feeling lost in things sometimes- but somehow after looking at these photos I feel like I don't look lost enough for the look I was imagining. ...maybe I need to style it a few more ways- I imagined it downplayed with a hat and boots when I was at the store. Maybe I'll try that next time. I really like these tights and shoes though. I'm just kind of feeling 'meh' about the oufit as a whole- maybe it's too many dressyish things together without anything casual thrown in? Also, I feel like I'm channeling Halle Berry from The Flinstones...
Today I finished my first knitting project: a book cover for my sister's birthday. pretty pumped about accomplishing that little goal of mine. I am now learning to crochet also and have started a scarf because all that entails is just keep stitching and stitching till you feel like it. baby steps for me!

those tights!!!!!!!! love them!!
ReplyDeleteIt actually looks really nice. But I can still kinda see how you'd feel a bit "off" wearing them.
ReplyDeleteI hope you'll find a way to wear it that works for you though:)

It might be the tights. I always feel kind weird when I pair colored tights with dresses. They can throw the balance off. That might be just me tho. I love the dress. I think you have a trim enough figure that the drapey-ness works well. I'm not sure how tall you are, but for me, when I put on dresses like that I'm always like "Oh, if only I was like 5'10" The color is gorgeous on you and velour/velvet always photographs amazingly!
ReplyDeleteI really like the colour and texture of this dress and I can see it being worn in so many ways. I personally feel you should perservere with it!

Definitely an interesting dress! I like this mix. But I also can't wait to see it with a hat: I can just picture it! Good job by not being scared away by the uniqueness of this piece!

I can see what you are saying about the dress but at the same time I think gives a waif/flapper feeling without going full on vintage look. You look nice in it anyway!
ReplyDeleteLove the dress. Great cut. Really elegant accessorizing, too.
ReplyDeleteI'm drawn to velour lately which is sad because by the time I do find something I'd like, it'll be the wrong season! That being said, I really like your dress~

I think this dress is very flattering, actually. The color looks amazing on you and the texture is incredible. I'd pair it with wedge ankle booties, a floppy brimmed hat and a really big brooch.
ReplyDeleteI think it's a great piece that can be styled very many different ways.
ReplyDeleteIt's a cool piece but I would definitely try a belt!

i understand feeling ambivalent about a piece that you felt lured to, for whatever reason, but this really works, especially with the leopard details and those absolutely luscious vintage shoes; it is definitely not a piece i would select from the rack, but you have incited a lot of envy here!
ReplyDeleteActually, I think this outfit is pretty cool and that you can pull off that dress shape! I also like how this looks with your hair color. I know what you mean about those slouchy/straight styles though...I tend to "feel" better when my waist is defined.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a cool look. This dress is really unique and looks amazing on you! I absolutely love the leopard print tights you paired with it.
