Chinese New Year
Ryan and I went to Chinatown to take part in the Chinese New Year festivities. The firecracker ceremony was at noon, and they set off hundreds of them at once which was really really loud, but fun. Then we took to the streets for all that confetti popper fun. That's where all the real fun is- total chaos, totally informal, and just tons of people with schoolkid glee and magic in the air. Lots of dragons snaked through the streets, blessing local businesses with dances. It was a fun time. Afterwards we got hot drinks with tapioca pearls and herbal jelly. I've had tons of cold versions of these drinks while living in Hawaii and Japan, but I didn't know there was a hot version, and I am in love. It was tricky trying to find a place to take outfit photos with no one else in the background. it was crazy crowded. But we trekked over to the arch on the outskirts of Chinatown and found a spot. It was a warmer day than most, and I didn't have to wear my down coat. So I celebrated by wearing one of my most vibrant ones.

Looks like so much fun and so colourful. I'm going to try to see if theres anything like that in Toronto that I could go to.
ReplyDeleteThis looks like so much fun! I love firecrackers and the old lion dance brings back fond memories of being a kid. My granddad used to have one and he let me and my cousin's play with it which was pretty awesome.
ReplyDeleteAwesome photos! Is that a rainbow filter on your camera? How did you do it?

Such dreamy pictures, I especially love the second one, looking up into the sky with the streamers and the ones with you in the snow.
ReplyDeleteI went to Chinese New Year celebrations last weekend in Manchester's China town, we only managed to see the fireworks though

Looks like so much fun!! I wish we had a huge celebration like this in my city for Chinese New Year! :) I guess we would need a bigger demographic of people who celebrate it.
ReplyDeleteThat looks like so much fun! As to the outfit- love that vibrant green and how you rock the sunglasses.
ReplyDeleteI love Chinese New Year! Actually, I like Asian holidays in general - so colorful and loud and over-the-top in comparison to the way we Americans seem to celebrate.
ReplyDeleteYour coat is the perfect shade of green and looks lovely as can be on you. xo.
Your life just seems like a constant string of fun! Wonderful coat :)
ReplyDeleteWow, that looks so magical! I love the dragons!

Such cool photos!! I celebrated by going to lunch with my boss, who is from Huangshan, and his family and friends. I ate sooo much.
ReplyDeleteI love all the bright colors - such a wonderful contrast to the blank canvas of snow :) Your coat is amazing (I'm falling in love with emerald again) and, basically, I just love this whole post!
