Evening on the Wharf
We spent a whole evening strolling along the piers and eating fresh seafood. There were rows and rows of little stands selling whole cooked crabs, crab cakes, lobster tails, and of course, clam chowder. We had fun sampling the wares! It had been so long since I'd eaten crab right out of the shell on the coast. wonderful.
A sourdough factory was just right around the corner too! look at all the fun animal breads!
after eating we found the Musee Mecanique, which is a really cool little warehouse filled with antique arcade types. It was amazing! a totally hands on museum! everything was coin operated and worked really well, it was such a neat place to explore!
music players!
marionette machines!
a hand cranked moving picture machine!
extinct animal games!
I had my fortune typed up before my eyes by an antique clairvoyant typerwriter behind glass, Ryan and I battled with antique tin robot boxers, and there were hilarious seedy looking nickelodeons and other coin operated optical tricks that claimed to contain something just risque enough to peak anyone's interest, but in a weird way, and then upon actually giving in to curiosity, the viewer discovers they've been duped into looking at a tiny diorama of a schoolboy doll, or watching a 30 second clip of a victorian woman beating the crap out of her husband. such an interesting place.
