Festival!

A little bit ago Ryan and I were invited to participate in carrying the Mikoshi(portable shrine) in a summer festival in a certain district of Tokyo. We were given festival garb to wear and paraded through the streets from about 10am to 6pm, and ended it with a big celebratory dinner. I obviously didn't take my camera with me on account of the participating being VERY participatory, but my iphone did have a little battery left toward the beginning so here are some images.


That thing was SO heavy- I can't believe how much energy everyone had all day. We were only one of about 10 groups of people carrying a Mikoshi, so it was quite the sight on the big streets. Luckily we had some nice snack and drink breaks along the way. My favourite was when we finally got to the big shrine, and the priests blessed the little shrines.
