Halloween Scenes

I've been decorating our place bit by bit for Halloween with the odd decoration I find here and there, crafts I've made myself, and tried and true already owned objects. I've tried to keep the spirit of the holiday alive in our home even though it's not quite as celebrated here in Japan. My mom mailed me some candy corn and little debbie's pumpkin pastries, so I've been savouring my childhood treats I've always associated with Halloween. I was also very excited to find spiderwebs at the local dollar store and was able to keep my tradition of decking out wherever I'm living at the time in cobwebs.

I've really been enjoying the spooky atmosphere in my living room- drinking tea with spiders and skulls staring back at me, and watching halloweeny movies in the flickering candlelight of the antique candelabra. It's been a bit rough since this is my first year ever in my life with no pumpkin patch outing, no pumpkin carving, no one to invite over for a spooky halloween party, and no real plans to speak of or reason to dress up, so I've been trying to make up for it by listening to as much Harry Potter on audiobook as possible while crafting, and watching way more Halloween movies and TV show specials than I thought I could squeeze into a few weeks. It's going to be a sad day indeed when I've finally seen every single episode of Are You Afraid of the Dark. I'm getting dangerously close this season!

I hardly ever wear this ghost sweater because it's one of my favorites and I'm worried about wearing it out- but every time October rolls around it's the perfect thing. I love the ghost pattern and how video gamey it feels, and especially how the ghosts are spaced out in a more random, unpredictable way that makes the whole sweater feel extra unique. It's nice that it's simple and black and white, and also that it can be worn as a cardigan, or a sweater. For all intents and purposes, I should be wearing it way more with all kinds of different pieces in my wardrobe, but something in me wants to keep it as immaculate as possible.

  3. I love the decorations you found! And the picture of you in front of the window, so lovely. We haven't gotten to go to parties or a corn maze or a pumpkin patch this year, either. But we are going trick-or-treating, so that makes up for it! (with our son, of course) Happy Halloween!
