We had a super magical evening last night over at our dear friend's house. This family have been our closest family friends since our parents were best friends throughout high school and college, and they have kids pretty much the same age as each of our family's children, so we've always spent a lot of time together whenever we would visit Utah for Christmas or summer vacation. They live in a total fairy tale house with ivy and flowers all over, and old style brick and french windows. It reminds me a lot of the Swiss farmhouses we would see while living in Geneva.

Every June 21st they throw an amazing Midsummer party in their back garden, complete with a maypole stuffed with fresh flowers, dancing, live music, and delicious homemade berry tarts and almond cake I was so excited to be around to attend this year and to help with decorating the maypole. Everything smelled so great- especially their lavender picked from the garden. It was wonderful to spend time together and enjoy the beautiful weather as the light faded and the glow of the garden lights grew brighter into the twilight.

Summer in Salt Lake City is my favourite thing. The dry heat is so much more bearable to me than the stifling humidity we experienced in New York and Tokyo. And the nights always cool off with wonderful mountain breezes. Everything is so nice and green right now, and the light between sunset and dusk is the best. I'm savoring all the backyard/ back porch breakfasts and dinners, and the smell of outdoor grilling. There are so many fun things to look forward to, like bike rides, canyon hikes, lake swimming, canoeing, and camping, and visits to the cabin. Summer has officially begun.

  3. What a wonderful evening! The midsummer Swedish party with flowers and games is a tradition I would love to have here in Barcelona. Your maypole is gorgeous with so many fresh flowers, nice to have friends with such a beautiful home (and to spend the summer in Utah, can't wait to see your next summer adventures!)
