Sleepy Hollow
Over the weekend we visited Sleepy Hollow with some friends. The cemetery at the old dutch church is maybe the best in the country- although I still haven't visited the epic southern ones that are almost all mausoleums. The fact that washington irving is buried there and it's the site of the headless horseman's grave is just the icing on the cake- the cemetery alone without spooky backstory could take up a whole day of exploring with its huge stretch of old historic tombstones, mausoleums, statues, and monuments. It's the perfect backdrop for Halloween. I was really hoping to get a glimpse of the headless horseman around the church, as I've heard that around halloween the town puts on all kinds of festivities, but I think the locals have caught on to the lucrative aspect of their town lore, and it was more than I was willing to pay for tickets to go on the 'haunted horseman hayride'. maybe next year.

Happy happy dress!
ReplyDeleteWow, I had no idea this graveyard existed! It's creepy but beautiful! I Googled it and it's only 19 minutes from where I live! I'll have to check it out one day!

I am smitten with your outfit and I find that cemetery absolutely ravishing! I love old graveyards! If Tim Burton bumps into this set of photos, I'm pretty sure he'll contact you... :) x
ReplyDeleteI love the shot with you between the two crosses - what amazing, rugged, almost organic headstones. And that series of sweet wee headstones in the third last photo is another great find - was that all a family or something? I can see Will, Minnie, and what appears to be Father? And love the Hunting Howell mausoleum... or should that be Hunting Howl... Sorry, couldn't resist!
ReplyDeleteArf! I wanna visit Sleepy Hollow too! There must be some incredibly spooky tales to tell around that area
ReplyDeleteThis seems like a great halloween/fall outing and you are dressed perfectly for it.
ReplyDeleteYou make the best Halloween photo shoots~
