In places where winter is done right it can be so breathtaking. I'm not the biggest fan of freezing temperatures or short days and long nights, but visiting Utah in the winter on a good snow year melts any bitter feelings I might garner while trudging through the dull, brown-grey, miserably cold winters in New York. The way the crystals form and stay coated around every tree branch, the lumpy globs of snow perching on pine limbs, the frosty morning air, and the soft pink light unique to this time of year that glows through the icicles and crystals make me so grateful for winter.

These photos are a few days old, but winter is still in full swing, and I'm trying to be more regular with blogging again. I wanted to photograph this snow covered orchard near where Ryan and I used to live, and we were lucky enough to catch a small herd of deer lounging around the area that day. They got a little skittish when I got too close, but I was certainly enchanted by their company, even if it wasn't mutual. Don't they have the most endearing faces? Oh what I would give to be able to pet one without them being scared. I think I should have been born an elf.

  23. Ah, so cute! I always kinda wanted a deer as a pet! Also, great outfit! I love your polar bear gloves. They remind me of Knut, the great polar bear of them all (may he R.I.P)!

  25. Oh my gosh how amazing. The snow is CRAZY high and I cannot believe you trekked though it. Your gloves! SO CUTE! And deer! Those photos are awesome. I'm actually quite scared of deer, I like them, but they scare me because I know them more as a 'crossing the road' type animal that I fear hitting.
