Lone Pine meadow at dusk.

I spend the bulk of the day hiking and exploring with my dad and ron, our mini schnauzer, who turns into a gleeful rabbit-bounding, reckless bundle of joy up here without a fence or leash or cars to worry about. We found some beaver ponds ( but no beavers:( ), ate a little picnic by the reeds and willows before the yellow jackets, doing what they do best, antagonised us back to our car, and then I filmed my sister Ali with some dressups and smoke bombs at our fort.

I love being out on the meadow as the sun sets or rises. The tall wild grass and sagebrush turn a different shade about every ten minutes as they catch the different strengths and hues of light at their feathered out tips. The high, husky, and almost eerie elk calls echo from the woods, though they never emerge to show their forms. And slowly as the sky's colour fades, stars and the moon start to show. My favourite moment is when the grass feels like it is glowing with no light source, and the sky is so deep, it feels like night has really come, even though there seems to be this other worldly light still faintly illuminating the scene from below.
