PA pt 3

Day three we walked a ways to see the Edgar Allen Poe House. It was free to go in and walk around, and we were allowed photos, which I really appreciated after all the places I've been lately where my camera at my side has been a lonely, prohibited appendage. The house was completely empty, and the walls had been stripped to determine the history and age of the house, and we just walked around from room to room while our guide explained its use and significance to the Poe family. Some rooms had paintings of furniture/ a room setup to provide a feel for what it would have been like, and some were just totally empty. It definitely added to the spookiness associated with Poe's memory.

The tour guide really knew her stuff inside and out and provided lots of interesting information and/or trivia about the man. Turns out this very cellar is what inspired his short story The Black Cat, and they even had a little stuffed one sitting in the false chimney with eyes that lit up red when it sensed motion. So interesting. So fun. I loved being able to explore the whole house at will. we were allowed to branch off from the tour group any time we wanted and I distinctly felt like nancy drew, creeping around the old spooky cellar with a high waisted wool skirt. dream come true.

other notable things: a raven statue, a mask of red death themed reading room with all his works available for patrons, and a massive mural homage across the street.

    1. thanks! I usually just add a gradient layer in red, in the direction of the most light flow in each photo, and then tinker with levels and layering.
