Christmas Past

IMG_2275-2

Our adorable tree in our adorable living room from last year in our very first apartment. This might be old, but I didn't have a blog yet, we have no money to decorate our new apartment, and no means for a tree either, so I thought I'd just reminisce for a bit about our lovely little first christmas. it was a nice time that I look back on with fondness.

Last year we knew we really wanted a tree, we knew our budget was pretty tight, and we thought going out to an actual tree farm could be fun. we called ahead and explained our budget was about 15 dollars and the kind soul on the other end said he could find something for us in that range. So we drove out into the mountains to this family tree farm, where the owner said we could find a tree with a scraggly, misshapen bottom, and just cut the top off to get about a 5 foot tree. not a bad deal!

so we got our nice little tree top for a pretty good deal, enjoyed the fresh smell of pine in our apartment, and had a nice little day date out of it too:) ornaments for our tree would have to be improvised for frugality, so I spent the next week making things to hang on our tree while watching christmas movies. One of the strings of our wedding lights got severed and wouldn't work anymore, so I pulled all the glass bulbs off, painted them, and glued a little ribbon for easy hanging. here are some of my favourites:

I also made lil owls out of old fabric scraps:

all in all, we rocked at saving the moneys and had a warm, cheery, charming Christmas, and looking at these pictures makes me miss last year and our old apartment a lot.

  2. I love the luggage, they're so adorable and I love how they're so Christmassy! The owl ornaments are wonderful too. I know how it feels to have no tree this year...my family can't put one up because my dog will eat it :( haha

  5. Love this! This Christmas my husband and I live in a itty-bitty apartment, so all we have room for is a little two-foot tree, but I'm proud of it!

  10. It looks like you had such a wonderful time making your own Christmas tree decorations, everything looked so adorable! :)

When I was a little girl, me and my dad used to pick our Christmas tree at a tree farm but now we use a fake one. I miss those times!

  11. I've always wanted to go chop down my own tree. What nice people they were, too bad you couldn't get one this year, but maybe you can use the ornaments in another way still? We were lucky & got leftover ornaments from family so were able to splurge on our first tree ever for once : )

  13. Awww, the ornaments you created are adorable! I especially love Totoro! I really enjoy seeing other people's Christmas decorations. This is the first year my husband and I got a tree (a small one for $15 from Fresh & Easy), and I definitely won't forget it.
