Landed in Tokyo
So it's been a little quiet around here, like, quieter than usual, and there's a pretty good reason. We, like, moved across the world and stuff. We spent pretty much 3 entire days traveling once you factor in the time difference, and then we've been staying at a place with no wifi while we hunt for apartments. So 'social media' has been dodgy at best. Can't complain, though. I've actually really enjoyed the break, and there's always Starbucks (....I may or not be typing this at one right now...)
I found this cute little washitsu style flat on airbnb, and we're here for the next week until we can move in to the apartment we chose. I've been completely enamored with the shoji sliding doors, tatami room, and wood floors and walls. It's so peaceful and well-designed- if it weren't for the lack of internet, lack of air-conditioning, and lack of vacancy, I'd move right it. We even have a buddhist temple and grounds right outside our window. It's also located in a very traditional neighborhood in Tokyo- there are something like 4 or 5 temples just within a few blocks from our place. Although it was a very busy and overwhelming first few days here, with moving all our luggage from the airport, dealing with pretty extreme heat and humidity, and apartment hunting like crazy, we now have a place picked out and can move in on the 29th, so we've earned ourselves some chill time.
We've still got a lot of errands to run- furniture and appliance shopping, buying a fridge and washer for the first time (!), making sure all our stuff gets to the right place at the right time, and making the move with all our luggage from our temporary place to our real one....and I still have a lot of film photos I just developed from Utah, so for the next few days, or weeks, maybe I'll probably be posting belated Utah stuff. Don't hate!
love, from Japan,
Kathryn
