WHAT WE DID:
Ryan's boss insisted that we go see a Kabuki play, and he bought us tickets and everything so we just HAD to go.... So Ryan got to take work off early, and I got to see him early and meet up with him for lunch before setting out to the theater. We ate some bentos together in Hibiya Park right by his work. I love how much vegetation they can pack into such an otherwise urban area. It was very pretty and refreshing.
We walked to the theater from Ryan's work to save money (AND to exercise! pfff)and there was a HUGE herd of school children traveling along our same path for about 90% of the journey. There were so many of them, it was like the entire school was on a field trip, and it was really hard to stay together let alone on the sidewalk. A lot of them kept looking at us and waving and giggling. I wish I could have taken some photos but I feel like i would have looked really creepy.
Once we got to the theater, there were a ton of field trippies all over the place. Crowds and crowds of kids in uniforms, of all ages. I guess that's what it's like, going to the theater in the middle of the day. It was a pretty fun sight.
The interior of the theater was really cool. The chandeliers looked like magic, and I really liked all the lanterns everywhere and the dropcloth over the stage. The play was a really neat experience too! The set and costumes were awesome, and the acting and narrating styles were very interesting. It's like a live version of a puppet show, so everything is very stylized and exaggerated.
